WP 8 - Nephrotoxicity

The work package 8 (WP 8) in the ONTOX project is dedicated to advancing kidney toxicity assessment by developing in vitro models focused on tubular necrosis and crystallopathy.

Work Package 8 (WP 8) is dedicated to advancing kidney toxicity assessment by developing in vitro models focused on tubular necrosis and crystallopathy. These models aim to provide next-generation risk assessment tools for evaluating nephrotoxic chemicals.

WP 8’s objectives include establishing and characterizing existing in vitro assays to detect molecular initiating events (MIEs) and key events (KEs) within the quantitative adverse outcome pathway (qAOP) networks for tubular necrosis and crystallopathy. It also involves creating new assays to capture additional MIEs and KEs as identified through ontology development. Finally, WP 8 will conduct targeted testing on specific chemicals identified by AI systems using these specialized in vitro test batteries, refining the tools for nephrotoxicity prediction.
