Dr. Luiz Carlos Maia Ladeira, an ONTOX scientist, has been recently selected as a Systems Biology Graphical Notation (SBGN) Acting Editor.
The Systems Biology Graphical Notation (SBGN) standard is used to represent molecular interactions in systems biology in an unambiguous and machine-readable format. Acting Editors are nominated from active contributors and are designated by the elected SBGN Editors. They work on particular tasks to intensify the development of the standard.
“I’m mainly involved in developing SBGN educational material, focusing on the Process Description language used for mechanistic, directed, and sequential representations of molecular interactions. This is an excellent opportunity to increase the visibility of the ONTOX Physiological Maps and Ontologies,” comments Dr. Ladeira on his new position.
Dr. Ladeira is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Biomechanics Research Unit, Université de Liège, under the supervision of Prof. Liesbet Geris. He has a background in cell biology, with an emphasis on morphology and physiology, and holds a doctoral degree in cellular and structural biology.

The primary responsibilities of Dr. Ladeira in ONTOX are establishing the 3 quantitative physiological maps (liver, kidney and developing brain) and the 6 ontologies for the selected systemic, repeated dose toxicity effects, with the support of Work Package (WP) 1 (Biological Domain), WP 5 (Data Integration, Ontology and AI), and the domain experts from WP7 (Hepatotoxicity), WP8 (Nephrotoxicity) and WP9 (Developmental Neurotoxicity).
